Installation#

One command copies the source into your app — you own the code and can change anything.

Usage#

Colours, radius and light / dark come from useKit(). Wrap your app in <KitProvider accent="#6366f1" radius={14}> to re-skin every component at once.

Props#

PropTypeDefault
children

The text to animate.

string—
variant

Which effect to play.

"reveal" | "shimmer" | "cascade" | "scramble" | "typewriter""reveal"
trigger

Animate once on mount, or also every time the text changes. A typewriter keeps typing when the new text extends the old (streaming).

"mount" | "change""change" for cascade / typewriter, else "mount"
delay

ms before the first animation.

number0
stagger

ms between words (reveal) or letters. Shimmer: ms of sweep per letter.

number70 reveal · 80 shimmer · 28 cascade · 45 scramble · 32 typewriter
speed

Speed multiplier: 2 plays twice as fast.

number1
color

Text colour.

stringtheme foreground
caret

Blinking caret for the typewriter.

booleantrue
replayKey

Change it to replay the animation.

string | number—
onComplete

Called when an animation finishes (not for the looping shimmer).

() => void—
textStyle

fontSize, fontWeight, lineHeight, letterSpacing, textAlign… for every letter.

StyleProp<TextStyle>—
style

Style for the root view.

StyleProp<ViewStyle>—

Behaviour & accessibility#

Motion
Reveal, shimmer and cascade run one native-driver clock per animation with spring curves pre-sampled into interpolations; scramble and typewriter use a light JS timer. Text wraps by word.
Reduced motion
Shows the final text immediately; shimmer stays static and the typewriter caret is hidden.
Screen readers
The whole string is one text element; the per-letter views are hidden. Cascade and typewriter announce new text when it changes (typewriter once streaming settles).
Platforms
iOS, Android and web. Arabic, Hebrew, Indic, Thai and other connected scripts animate a word at a time so shaping is never broken; right-to-left text flows from the right.

Manual installation
  1. Copy the files

Create each file at the same path and paste its code. @/ points at your src/ folder (the default in new Expo apps). Skip any file you already have, like lib/kit.tsx.

    • src/components/ui/text-animation.tsx651 lines
    • src/lib/kit.tsx220 lines

Want to read it first? Every file is in Source below.

  2. Use it

    App.tsx
    import { AnimatedText } from "@/components/ui/text-animation";

See Usage for a full example.

Example.tsx
import { AnimatedText } from '@/components/ui/text-animation'; <AnimatedText textStyle={{ fontSize: 28, fontWeight: '600' }}>  Ship native apps that feel alive.</AnimatedText> <AnimatedText variant="shimmer">Thinking…</AnimatedText><AnimatedText variant="cascade">{status}</AnimatedText>

Every variant above has a complete, runnable example in its Code tab.
